Well, 2020 was certainly one for the history books! It started off great; lots of snow, great skiing. As you can probably tell, I 'm one of those crazy people who actually like winter! Let's face it, you better if you live in Canada!

Metallic black glass beads on sterling wire ear posts. Metallic black is a wonderful glass to work with - you can get some beautiful iridescent rainbow colours within the shiny black. Beautiful effect!
In February, we were fortunate enough to travel to Thailand, Cambodia and Japan and returned just as Canada closed it's borders. It was an amazing trip; we met some wonderful people and the scenery was breathtaking.
In Japan, the Cherry trees were just starting to blossom - they are beautiful! These delicate, pink flowers inspired me when we got back home to Canada to create something similar in glass.
This is a Kanzashi - a Japanese Hair stick. The origins of kanzashi lie in ancient Japan. In the Nara period (710~794 AD), what we now know as kanzashi came to Japan via China. At that time people believed that a special power was contained with a thin stick, and by inserting the stick into ones hair, evil sprits or bad energy could be warded off. So, kanzashi was originally thought to be more of an amulet rather than a hair accessory.
With the Pandemic, all art/craft shows were cancelled. While disappointing, this gave me the opportunity to explore different techniques and experiment. It's exciting to stretch your creative muscles and see what you can do.
